The rest of Rhea and Prateek’s trip was the sweetest, most fun blur. There is something about loved ones visiting you that makes a place feel even more like home. Through the trip, we ate so much ice cream, walked all day, went to thrift stores, chatted non-stop, picnicked, even went on a giant ferris wheel. I was terrified before getting on, and that feeling only grew as the wheel went round with more folks climbing on, but I eventually looked at the view at Rhea’s urging, and wow!
Mid-week was a bit of a crash when our visitors and Amber all left Brussels on the same morning. I spent the next few days buried in work. Up before six and lights out by ten, all home-cooked meals, reading every night: just my way of ticking on.
All my India-based annual tax filings got done this week, phew. My copy of Brussels Type, which had been stuck in shipping for weeks, finally arrived. I’m looking forward to flipping through it on the weekend, and maybe planning some type-spotting excursions. I made a little sketch for a typeface idea based on something I saw at the Comic Arts Museum last week. Since I finished all the Perveen Mistry novels, I’ve switched to good old Phryne Fisher, and I started reading the Bangalore Detectives Club series. Racing through these books makes me feel like I’m ten again, with my nose buried in a new Nancy Drew or Hardy Boys adventure every other day.
