First birds, now flowers

If becoming a birdwatcher1 wasn’t enough, now I find myself obsessed with documenting the flowers around me. That I’m in a new city with unfamiliar blooms is definitely a motivating factor. In Delhi, too, I would wait for semal season in spring, and for saptaparni in the winter, but this is different. Here I find myself photographing and reading up on flowers I haven’t seen before properly. It is non-stop.

Row 1 Star of Persia, Sun’s eye tulip, Grape hyacinth, Magic dogwood, Prunus “Kanzan”, Miss Kim Lilac, Common Dandelion (I realise this is the fruit of the dandelion, but it looks like a flower, doesn’t it?)

Row 2 Common lilac, Cherry blossom, Wild garlic, Apple, Horse-chestnut, Sour cherry, Magnolia

Row 3 Bridal wreath, Littleleaf Lilac, Common Dandelion, Wood anemone, Purple dead-nettle, Creeping comfrey, Crocus

Phew, feels good to have organised and labeled these photos.

  1. Speaking of birds, here are all the lifers I’ve added to my name in the last two months: Dunnock, Great Crested Grebe, Canada Goose, Egyptian Goose, Mute Swan, Eurasian Green Woodpecker, Eurasian Jay, Coal Tit, Eurasian Robin, Eurasian Blue Tit, Eurasian Wren, Cetti’s Warbler, Great Tit, Short-toed Treecreeper, and Eurasian Nuthatch. I’ve even bought paper napkins with water colour illustrations of birds on them. They are so pretty that I may never use them.
